Shrinkify Image Compression

Description

Shrinkify Image Compression is the easiest way to drastically reduce your image file sizes without compromising quality. Powered by the Shrinkify cloud engine, it automatically converts your heavy JPEG and PNG images into modern, ultra-efficient formats like AVIF and WebP β€” the same formats used by Google, Netflix, and top-performing websites worldwide.

πŸš€ Why Shrinkify?

  • Blazing Fast Optimization β€” Cloud-powered compression delivers results in seconds, not minutes.

πŸ”’ Your Images Are Safe

Images are securely transmitted to the Shrinkify API via HTTPS, optimized in real-time, and returned to your server. Originals are never stored on our servers β€” they are purged immediately after processing.

External Services

This plugin relies on the Shrinkify API to compress and optimize images. When you trigger optimization (either on upload or via batch processing), your image files are securely sent over HTTPS to our cloud API at https://shrinkify.dev/.

The optimized images are returned to your server, and original files are instantly removed from our API servers. No data is retained.

FAQ

Do I need an API key?

Yes. You can get a free API key by signing up at shrinkify.dev.

Will this slow down my site?

No. Shrinkify makes your site faster by reducing image file sizes by up to 80%. The compression happens in the cloud, so your server resources are untouched.

Can I optimize images individually from the Media Library?

Yes! Version 1.4 introduces a dedicated Shrinkify column in your Media Library with live savings stats and a 1-click “Optimize” button.

Is it safe to use on a live site?

Yes, but we always recommend taking a backup before running batch optimization, as conversions are permanent.

What image formats are supported?

Input: JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF. Output: AVIF, WebP, PNG, or JPEG (your choice).

Is Shrinkify SEO friendly and safe for Google Image Search?

Yes, 100%! Shrinkify preserves all WordPress image SEO metadata including ALT text (_wp_attachment_image_alt), captions, titles, and image dimensions (width and height). It also maintains proper MIME types and responsive image attributes (srcset and sizes) so Googlebot and mobile browsers load optimized AVIF and WebP images instantly, boosting your Google Core Web Vitals (LCP) and search rankings.

Is it compatible with WordPress 7.1.3?

Yes! Shrinkify is fully tested and certified for WordPress 7.1.3 (the latest release) and supports native AVIF & WebP workflows, modern block editor media blocks, and PHP 8.2+.

Are SVG and GIF files processed?

No. SVG and GIF files are automatically excluded from optimization to prevent conversion errors.

I've been using Shrinkify Image Compression on my own website and several client WordPress websites. My experience with WebP and AVIF image conversion has been very good. The plugin is useful for optimising website images and helping reduce image file sizes. I especially appreciate having a solution for next-generation image formats without needing to manually convert every image. It's a helpful tool for WordPress developers and website owners who want to improve image optimization and website performance. Thank you to the developer for creating this plugin!
