Works well for such a simple plugin. WordPress is lacking in a good way to phase users in to major plugin updates. (either you manually install from trunk, or get a surprise as soon as the stable tag changes) I’d love to see this worked into a more fully fledged “beta tester” plugin that hooks into auto-updates when the dev version is bumped.
